Serena Williams Welcomes Second Child with Husband Alexis Ohanian
Serena Williams has announced the birth of her second child.
The retired tennis star, who won 23 Grand Slam singles titles during her 27-year professional career, shared the news on social media.
She posted a picture of herself and her new baby with her husband Alexis Ohanian, the founder of Reddit, and their eldest child, five-year-old Olympia.
Williams, 41, announced her daughter’s name in the caption, where she wrote: “Adira River Ohanian.”
Ohanian, 40, posted a lengthier statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside two photos of Olympia meeting her little sister for the first time.
He wrote: “I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful.”
The entrepreneur praised his wife as the “GMOAT [greatest mother of all-time] and added: “Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter.”
Adira’s birth comes almost exactly one year on from Williams’ last professional tennis match.
The 2022 US Open was her final tournament and saw Williams knocked out in the third round by Ajla Tomljanovic.
When announcing her retirement, she cited her desire for more children as one of the reasons for the decision.

“Believe me,” she wrote in an essay published by Vogue. “I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair.
“If I were a guy I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family.”
Williams and Ohanian met in 2015 and welcomed their first daughter two years later. They married in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the same year.
