Several fatalities in aircraft accident near Wright Brothers National Memorial in North Carolina | US News
Several individuals have lost their lives in a tragic incident where a single-engine plane crashed close to the monument dedicated to the pioneering US aviators, the Wright brothers.
The crash occurred at approximately 5pm on Saturday in the Wright Brothers National Memorial located in Outer Banks, North Carolina.
According to eyewitnesses cited by the US National Park Service, the plane was attempting to land at the First Flight Airport when it tragically crashed.
Following the crash, the plane ignited, but the flames were swiftly extinguished by the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department and other local fire departments.
As a result of the incident, the airport has been temporarily closed, with the memorial also shut down on Sunday.
The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct a thorough investigation into the crash, and the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified about the incident.
Outer Banks is an array of barrier islands and spits situated off the coast of North Carolina and southeastern Virginia on the eastern seaboard of the US.
