Shocking Video captures Texas driver hitting two cyclists before running over one of them | US News

The moment two cyclists were rear-ended by a drunk driver has been captured on camera by one of their colleagues.

Recorded on Monday, the video shows cyclists riding on the right-hand side of the road near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport when a white SUV crashes into them from behind.

Both riders are knocked to the ground – the SUV then swerves to the left, driving over one of the fallen cyclists.

Thomas Geppert, 69, was taken to the hospital with a severe leg laceration, while the other victim, 65-year-old Deborah Eads, received treatment at the scene.

Local news outlets reported that other cyclists who were riding with the pair pursued the driver – 31-year-old Benjamin Hylander – to a nearby Shell petrol station and compelled him to return to the crash site.

According to a police report, Hylander admitted to investigators that he had consumed a beer an hour before the incident, but a breathalyser test revealed that his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit of 0.15.

The report also mentioned that officers discovered six empty cans of Voodoo Ranger beer during a search of his vehicle.
