Shooting at NYC Store Injures Six, Including Mother and Her 12-Year-Old Daughter

NEW YORK—On Monday, six individuals were shot at a convenience store in New York City, including a 12-year-old girl and her mother. According to the police, one of the intended targets used the woman as a human shield.

The mother sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach while the individual who seized her remained unharmed, stated police interim Chief of Department John Chell. There is currently no update on the condition of those injured in what Chell described as “a brazen and heartless attack on innocent New Yorkers and cowardly intended victims.”

Authorities suspect that the two shooters were targeting individuals in a group gathered outside the establishment on White Plains Road, a popular commercial route in the Bronx.

Chell mentioned that police have video footage showing the assailants opening fire around 5 p.m. as they dashed across the street to the store and continued shooting as their intended targets fled inside. While trying to escape, one of the individuals who ran in collided with the mother and daughter at the counter, ultimately spinning the woman into the line of fire, according to Chell.

Chell confirmed that all the injured, aside from the 40-year-old mother, had wounds to their arms or legs. The Fire Department reported that they transported five of the injured to hospitals, while the sixth received a ride to a hospital from another individual.

Among those injured were the mother and daughter, as well as four men aged between 18 and 21, as noted by Chell.

As for the investigation, no arrests have been made yet, and the motive behind the shooting remains uncertain.
