Sting Cancels Shows and Award Performance Following Doctor’s Advice | Entertainment & Arts News
Sting has announced the cancellation of an awards ceremony performance along with several shows this week, following his doctor’s advice.
A message posted on the British singer’s Instagram indicated that the decision was made “due to illness,” but no further details were provided.
Sting, 73, was scheduled to perform at the Bass Magazine Awards in California on Thursday, where he was set to receive a lifetime achievement award.
Additionally, he has put off performances in Phoenix, Arizona, and Wheatland, California, as well as a concert for a record label’s anniversary, all initially planned for later this week.
“Based on his doctor’s advice and due to illness, Sting must regretfully cancel his appearance at the Bass Magazine Awards this Thursday and postpone his STING 3.0 concerts,” the statement explained.
The Phoenix show, initially planned for January 24, is now rescheduled for June 1, while the Wheatland concert on January 26 has been moved to May 28.
“Fans are advised to keep their tickets for the postponed shows, as they will be valid on the new dates,” the announcement stated.
“Sting sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience and expresses his gratitude to fans for their understanding.”
The 20th anniversary celebration of Cherrytree Music Company, which will also feature Shaggy and other artists, has been rescheduled to May 29.
Sting, born Gordon Sumner, gained fame as the lead singer of The Police in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with iconic hits such as Roxanne, Message In A Bottle, Don’t Stand So Close To Me, and Every Breath You Take.
His solo career also flourished, yielding three number one albums in the UK chart and three top 10 singles — All For Love (with Bryan Adams and Sir Rod Stewart), When We Dance, and Rise And Fall (with Craig David) — along with other popular tracks like Englishman In New York and If I Ever Lose My Faith In You.
In 2022, he joined the ranks of notable artists, including Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, who sold their music rights. He announced that his catalogue of solo work and songs written for The Police had been acquired by Universal Music Publishing Group.
