Survivor and Two Children Rescued After Alaska Plane Crash
JUNEAU, Alaska—Authorities reported that a man and two children sustained non-life-threatening injuries on Monday near the wreckage of a small aircraft on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, which had been declared overdue the previous night.
The trio—the pilot and the two minors—were transported to a hospital after the discovery of the plane’s wreckage on Monday morning, close to the eastern shore of Tustumena Lake, according to the Alaska State Troopers. The three individuals are immediate family members, as confirmed by troopers spokesperson Austin McDaniel in an email.
Troopers had previously received a report late Sunday indicating that a Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser was unaccounted for. Search efforts identified potential locations including Tustumena Lake and the Kenai Mountains, east of Homer. The 60,000-acre lake has a reputation, as noted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, for its unpredictable and hazardous winds.
Homer is a community on the Kenai Peninsula, situated approximately 220 miles southwest of Anchorage.
