Suspect Arrested in Stabbing on Los Angeles Metro Train

LOS ANGELES—A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder in last week’s stabbing on a Metro Red Line train in Hollywood.

Alex Garcia of Los Angeles, 27, was taken into custody at 5:40 p.m. April 8 near Santa Monica Boulevard and Gower Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department statement. He was being held on $1 million bail and a felony probation hold.

The attack occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday at the Metro Hollywood/Western Station. Police said the victim walked onto an MTA train and became engaged in an argument with the suspect, who was already seated.

The argument became violent and the suspect slashed the victim, who got off the train at the platform in the 5400 block of Hollywood Boulevard and sought help. He was hospitalized with a severe injury to his lower body, but had stable vital signs, police said.

The suspect remained on the train after the attack, police said.

Another stabbing occurred a few hours later Thursday near the Westlake/MacArthur Park Station. A man was stabbed multiple times in the neck and back at 600 S. Alvarado St. That victim was taken to a hospital, but his condition was unknown.

Police did not say whether Garcia is also a suspect in that stabbing.
