Taxi Crashes onto Sidewalk Outside Macy’s on Christmas Day, Injuring Seven
According to authorities, the driver experienced a medical crisis.
On Christmas Day, a taxi in New York City mounted a sidewalk and collided with pedestrians near a Macy’s department store, resulting in injuries to seven individuals. This incident occurred after the cab driver experienced a medical episode, as stated by police on Wednesday.
The collision happened in Midtown Manhattan close to Macy’s flagship location in Herald Square, at the intersection of West 34th Street and Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue). The store, adorned with elaborate holiday decorations, attracts both tourists and local residents during the festive season.
Among those injured were the 58-year-old taxi driver, a 9-year-old boy, two women aged 49, and four other women aged 19, 37, and 41, as reported by law enforcement.
A 49-year-old woman with a leg injury, the 9-year-old boy with a cut, and a 41-year-old woman who suffered a head injury were transported to the hospital, according to police officials.
The other three pedestrians chose not to seek medical assistance, and all victims’ injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
