Three Killed and Three Injured in Shooting at Virginia Townhouse Complex

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va.—Authorities reported that three individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a shooting that occurred in northeastern Virginia on Tuesday evening.

Around 5:30 p.m., 911 dispatchers began receiving reports of gunfire at a townhouse complex in Spotsylvania County, located just outside Fredericksburg and approximately 65 miles southwest of Washington, according to Maj. Elizabeth Scott, spokesperson for the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.

Officials advised the public to steer clear of the area and urged residents nearby to remain indoors while the investigation unfolds, she stated.

Scott indicated that the incident may have involved multiple perpetrators. As of now, there have been no arrests made nor details released regarding a potential motive.

“Dozens of officers are actively seeking suspects and securing the crime scene,” Scott remarked.

The three injured individuals were promptly transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds. Their current conditions and additional information were not immediately disclosed.

According to Scott, all victims were discovered outside the complex.

“We will remain here throughout the night until we apprehend the suspects,” she announced during a press briefing in the evening.

Authorities also requested that any witnesses share video footage that may assist in the ongoing investigation.

Fredericksburg City Public Schools stated on its website that there would be a two-hour delay for schools on Wednesday, “in light of the significant impact this incident has had on our school community.”

“This delay will provide us with the necessary time to prepare our facilities and staff to support students during this challenging period,” the statement read.

The district did not provide any further details.
