TikTok Bans Operations in the US Ahead of Trump’s Inauguration as New Law Takes Effect | US News



Users of TikTok in the United States are logging into the app only to encounter a notification stating they “can’t use” the platform “for now” due to a law that has been enacted in Washington.

A prohibition on the app was set to take effect today following outgoing President Joe Biden’s signing of a law last year, mandating that ByteDance, the China-based parent company of TikTok, divest TikTok on national security grounds or risk being banned in one of its primary markets.

The application has also disappeared from the Apple App Store.
