Tim Walz urges to ‘Move on from Trump’, as Democrats focus on January 6 riot | US News
Tim Walz declared it’s time to “turn the page” on Donald Trump in a groundbreaking speech that set him against the Republicans.
In a landmark address to the Democratic faithful, Kamala Harris’s running mate, drawing on his experience as a high school American football coach, urged them to give it their all until election day.
“Our job is to get in the trenches and do the blocking and tackling,” he emphasized during the Democratic National Convention on its third night.
“We’ve only got 76 days left. That’s nothing. We’ll rest when we’re dead, and we’re going to put everything into this campaign.”
Earlier this week, Mr. Walz was accused of lying about his wife undergoing IVF to conceive their daughter, Hope.
Addressing the controversy, he stated: “We also championed reproductive freedom because in Minnesota, we respect our neighbors and their personal choices.
“We’ve got a golden rule – mind your own business, even if our choices differ. This is personal for Gwen and me. If you’ve never faced infertility, chances are you know someone who has.”
‘Don’t forget who saved democracy’
Throughout the evening, Democrats highlighted January 6, showcasing a video of Mr. Trump inciting supporters to violence before they attempted to block Joe Biden’s election victory by storming the US Capitol.
Nancy Pelosi, who was House speaker on that day, said: “Let us not forget who assaulted democracy on January 6 – he did.
“But let us not forget who saved democracy that day – we did.”
Never before had a president of the US “so brazenly assaulted the bedrock of our democracy,” she added, and “so gleefully embraced political violence, so wilfully betrayed his oath of office.”
She expressed gratitude to outgoing President Joe Biden before shifting focus to Ms. Harris, who she believes is poised to elevate the US to new heights.
Celebrity backing
Amidst celebrity appearances and performances by Stevie Wonder and John Legend, Oprah Winfrey endorsed Ms. Harris, cautioning against Mr. Trump’s divisive tactics.
She pointed out those who aim to divide and conquer, spreading misinformation about books and glorifying assault rifles.

Quoting the late congressman John Lewis, she reiterated: “No matter which ship our ancestors arrived on, we’re all in the same boat now.”
“But he also understood the work is never finished,” she continued. “The fight for freedom never ends.”
“Sometimes, it involves standing up to life’s bullies,” she said.
‘Don’t count the lies’
Former President Bill Clinton joined the convention’s mockery of Mr. Trump, advising the audience to not focus on the lies but on the ego.
“He’s like a tenor warming up before a performance, filling his lungs with ‘Me, me, me, me’.”
“Under Kamala Harris’s presidency, each day will start with ‘You, you, you’,” he declared.
He also mocked Mr. Trump’s constant references to fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter, joking about his self-centeredness.
Project 2025, a series of proposals hoped for by some conservatives from Mr. Trump, was also critiqued.
Comedian Kenan Thompson took the stage with a huge policy book, quipping, “Ever seen a document that can kill a small animal and democracy at the same time?
“Here it is.”
