Transition Team of Trump Administration Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Biden Administration
This MOU allows the incoming administration to access information, especially classified data.
The Trump transition team announced on Nov. 26 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Biden administration to commence cooperation.
The MOU enables the incoming administration to obtain security clearances and information, particularly classified data. It is crucial in facilitating the transition of power.
“After finalizing the selection of his Cabinet members, President-elect [Donald] Trump is moving into the next phase of his administration’s transition by executing a Memorandum of Understanding with President Joe Biden’s White House,” stated incoming White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
“This collaboration allows our designated Cabinet nominees to begin essential preparations, including deploying landing teams to every department and agency, ensuring a smooth transition of power.”
Despite signing the MOU, the Trump transition team will not use taxpayer funds, government facilities, or General Services Administration technology in preparing for assuming control of the government.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre mentioned on Nov. 22 that Biden has been supporting Trump’s transition team while waiting for the MOU to be signed.
“Trump–Vance transition team has not yet entered into the agreements with the White House and the General Service Administration [GSA],” Jean-Pierre noted.
“President [Joe] Biden met with the president-elect to demonstrate the transition of power, offering any necessary assistance to ensure a peaceful and efficient transition.”
They met on Nov. 13, eight days after the election.
