Trump Announces Plans to Pardon Baseball Legend Pete Rose

On Friday, former President Donald Trump announced that he intends to pardon baseball legend Pete Rose, condemning Major League Baseball for excluding the all-time hits leader from the sport’s Hall of Fame due to gambling.

Rose, who passed away last year at the age of 83, received a lifetime ban from baseball. In 2004, he confessed to betting on games, although he maintained he never wagered against his own team.

“In the upcoming weeks, I will be signing a full pardon for Pete Rose, who certainly shouldn’t have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on his team to win,” Trump shared on Truth Social.

“He never bet against himself or the opposing team. He holds the record for the most hits in baseball history and has achieved more wins than any other athlete.”

The specifics of what the pardon would entail were not disclosed by Trump. Notably, Rose had pleaded guilty in 1990 to felony offenses for filing false tax returns, as reported at the time.

Rose, who played the majority of his career from 1963 to 1986 with the Cincinnati Reds, secured three World Series titles and tops Major League Baseball’s all-time records for hits, games played, at-bats, singles, and outs.
