Trump Announces Plans to ‘Quickly and Surgically’ Dismiss Certain FBI Agents
The president spoke about the agents involved in the investigations concerning the January 6, 2021, incident at the U.S. Capitol.
On February 7, President Donald Trump announced that he would dismiss certain FBI agents who were involved in cases associated with the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach.
“I will be terminating some of them, as some were corrupt,” he stated during a press briefing in Washington. “I have no doubt regarding this.”
The FBI recently provided information concerning the agents involved in the January 6 investigations to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), in adherence to an order from the acting DOJ leadership.
Trump’s remarks came in reply to a question from a journalist inquiring whether he intended to dismiss the agents involved in the January 6 cases.
“I have learned a great deal about that field, that environment. I became familiar with it, and we had some corrupt agents,” Trump asserted. “These individuals will be removed, or they already have been, and this will happen swiftly and meticulously.”

The FBI has opted not to comment on this matter.
A newly formed working group will concentrate on actions that occurred while Joe Biden was in office, which seem to have been “intended to achieve political goals or other improper objectives rather than seeking justice or legitimate governmental aims,” Bondi stated in a memorandum.
Trump accused the Biden administration of “engaging in an unparalleled, third-world manipulation of prosecutorial power to undermine the democratic process.” He faced charges in two cases concerning the mishandling of sensitive documents and disrupting the certification of the 2020 electoral votes. Both cases were dismissed after his victory in the 2024 election.
On Friday, Trump asserted that his administration is committed to “restoring the FBI’s reputation, which has suffered greatly.”
During Biden’s presidency, the FBI was led by Christopher Wray, a Trump nominee whom the president increasingly criticized over time.
