Trump Appoints Andrew Ferguson as FTC Chair and Mark Meador as Commissioner
Ferguson, who has been an FTC commissioner since April 2024, will succeed Lina Khan.
On Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump made two significant appointments to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). He appointed Andrew Ferguson as the new chair of the FTC and proposed antitrust lawyer Mark Meador as a commissioner.
Ferguson, who has held the position of FTC commissioner since April 2024, is set to take over for Lina Khan. At the same time, Meador’s nomination will occupy one of the available seats on the commission, which currently consists of three Democrats and two Republicans.
“Andrew will be the most America First, pro-innovation FTC Chair in our nation’s history.”
Ferguson, previously the solicitor general of Virginia and an antitrust litigator, graduated from the University of Virginia and clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. His time at the FTC has focused on reducing regulatory overreach.
Meador also has experience as an enforcer at the FTC and in the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, in addition to his time in private practice with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.
