Trump Appoints Attorney Alina Habba as Presidential Counselor

The president-elect revealed another series of appointments for his upcoming term on Sunday evening.

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed his longtime attorney Alina Habba as counselor to the president within the White House, as part of a new wave of late-night appointments on Sunday.

“Her loyalty has been steadfast, and her determination extraordinary—standing by me through numerous ‘trials,’ challenges, and countless days in court. Few comprehend the weaponization of the ‘Injustice’ system better than Alina, who has tirelessly battled against the full weight of Lawfare with bravery and an unyielding devotion to Justice,” Trump announced on Truth Social.

“As a first-generation American of Middle Eastern heritage, she has emerged as a role model for women in law and politics, recently honored as the Chaldean Woman of the Year. Congratulations to Alina, her husband Gregg, and their three lovely children, Chloe, Luke, and Parker.”

Trump also disclosed his nominees for various positions within the State Department, with Sen. Marco Rubio nominated to take the lead.

Former Ambassador to Mexico Christopher Landau is slated for the role of deputy secretary of state, while Rubio aide Michael Needham has been tapped as counselor of the Department of State.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump remarked that Landau will be strong on border issues and national security, promoting prosperity through an “America First Foreign Policy.” A lawyer, Landau previously served as a clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.
In a separate post, Trump praised Needham as “a key leader in the America First Movement” who has been “actively engaged in the struggle for the Forgotten Men and Women of America for nearly two decades.”
Trump also appointed his former National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Michael Anton to the position of director of policy planning at the State Department. Anton was an early backer of Trump’s initial presidential campaign. Once a managing director at BlackRock and a speechwriter for officials in President George W. Bush’s administration, Anton left the Trump White House in 2018 to lecture at Hillsdale College.

Additionally, Trump extended his congratulations to state GOP Chairman Brian Schimming for his reelection to another term at the helm of the Wisconsin GOP.
