Trump Appoints Head of Social Security Administration
The president-elect has chosen Frank Bisignano, the president of the fintech firm Fiserv, to head the agency.
President-elect Donald Trump has announced yet another addition to the long list of appointments he’s been making as he builds his Cabinet and staff for the upcoming administration.
On December 4, he revealed that he has picked businessman Frank Bisignano to take the reins of the Social Security Administration.
“Frank is a proven business leader with an impressive history of steering large organizations through transformation,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, informing the public of the nomination.
“He will be tasked with ensuring that the Agency meets its obligations to the American People for generations ahead!”
This appointment will require confirmation by the Senate.
Throughout his campaign, the president-elect vowed to safeguard Social Security. This critical entitlements program is vital for many elderly and disabled Americans and is a significant part of the federal budget amidst mounting debt.
Bisignano serves as the president and CEO of Fiserv, a financial technology company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company holds the naming rights to the Fiserv Forum, the venue that hosted this year’s Republican National Convention (RNC).
He has held significant positions throughout the financial industry, including at JPMorgan Chase, where he oversaw the mortgage division during a critical time. He was reportedly involved in the departure of the mortgage chief following disclosures that active-duty military personnel had been overcharged for loans.
Bisignano will succeed the current Social Security Administration head Carolyn Colvin, who was preceded by former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley. The last acting head of the Social Security Administration before O’Malley was Kilolo Kijakazi.
Nancy Berryhill was the acting commissioner when Trump was in office, taking over from Colvin, who had been appointed as acting commissioner by former President Barack Obama.
