Trump Appoints New Ambassadors and Treasury Department Candidates

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Daniel Katz as the chief of staff for the Treasury.

Donald Trump, who is set to take office, has revealed multiple nominees for his forthcoming administration, which includes ambassadors to two European nations and officials who will collaborate with his November selection for Treasury secretary.

In November, Trump selected billionaire Wall Street financier Scott Bessent to serve as Treasury secretary.
On January 2, the president-elect announced on the social media platform Truth Social that Daniel Katz, a senior fellow at the conservative Manhattan Institute and a Yale University alumnus, would take on the role of chief of staff at the Treasury.

Katz previously served as a senior advisor in the department during Trump’s first term.

Samantha Schwab, the granddaughter of billionaire Charles Schwab, has been designated as the deputy chief of staff under Katz. She has prior experience in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs during Trump’s first term, as noted by the president-elect.

“Samantha joins the Treasury Department from the personnel team of the Trump–Vance transition,” Trump remarked.

Additionally, Cora Alvi, who recently held the position of national deputy finance director for his presidential campaign, will also join the Treasury Department as a deputy chief of staff.

Ken Kies, a tax attorney boasting nearly 50 years of experience, has been appointed as assistant secretary for tax policy at the Treasury.

Kies has a background as the chief of staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation and as chief republican tax counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee, as stated by Trump.

Furthermore, Trump has appointed Alexandra Preate as senior counsel to Bessent and Hunter McMaster as the director of policy planning.

Ambassadors to Spain and the Netherlands

In addition to the Treasury Department appointments, Trump has announced that Cuban American entrepreneur Benjamin Leon Jr. will be the next U.S. ambassador to Spain.

Trump characterized Leon as a “highly successful entrepreneur, equestrian, and philanthropist” who emigrated from Cuba to the United States at the age of 16.

Leon is also the founder of Leon Medical Centers (LMC), which provides healthcare services to Medicare recipients within the Miami-Dade region.

Trump has also nominated Joe Popolo as the forthcoming U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands.

He praised Popolo, a Boston College graduate, as a “successful businessman and philanthropist in numerous sectors.”

“For over two decades, he has played a key role in transforming the Freeman Company into the world’s leading live event brand experience company,” Trump noted.

Currently, Popolo is the founder and CEO of the private investment firm Charles & Potomac Capital and serves as the board chairman for the event experience company Pinnacle Live.

Trump is set to commence his second term in office on January 20, 2025.
