Trump Designates 13-Year-Old Cancer Survivor as Honorary Secret Service Agent During Congressional Address

WASHINGTON—During his address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, President Donald Trump introduced a new member of the U.S. Secret Service—DJ, a 13-year-old who has triumphantly survived brain cancer.

DJ Daniel, who was wearing a Houston police uniform and seated with his father in the gallery of the House of Representatives during the speech, has always aspired to be a police officer, according to Trump.

“In 2018, DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctors predicted he had only five months to live. That was over six years ago,” Trump remarked, eliciting loud applause from the audience.

Following his diagnosis, Trump relayed that DJ had been ceremonially sworn in as an honorary law enforcement officer multiple times.

“Police departments are fond of him. And tonight, DJ, we’re going to grant you the greatest honor. I am requesting our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially appoint you as an agent of the United States Secret Service.”

DJ’s eyes widened in astonishment, and his father lifted him into the air. Curran presented DJ with what appeared to be a Secret Service credential, which DJ proudly raised for the crowd to see before embracing Curran in a hug.
