Trump Reveals New Selections for Crucial Diplomatic and Policy Positions
Among the latest nominees are former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle and private equity real estate investor Tom Barrack.
On December 10, President-elect Donald Trump revealed his newest selections for his administration.
He announced that Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality, would be his nominee for the ambassador to Greece. Guilfoyle, who is in a relationship with Donald Trump Jr., served as a surrogate during Trump’s 2020 and 2024 campaigns.
“Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on defense cooperation, trade, and economic innovation,” he added.
If confirmed, Guilfoyle would make history as the first female U.S. ambassador to Greece.
Furthermore, Trump nominated Tom Barrack, a private equity real estate investor, to serve as his ambassador to Turkey.
Barrack, who has been a friend of Trump, was acquitted in 2022 on charges related to being an unregistered foreign agent for the United Arab Emirates.
Additionally, Trump appointed former Rep. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) as the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Bishop was unsuccessful in his bid for North Carolina attorney general in November.
Russ Vought has been nominated by Trump to serve as the OMB director.
Trump announced Ed Martin would be the chief of staff at OMB. Martin previously held the position of chief of staff for former Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt and chaired the Missouri Republican Party.
Trump also nominated Jacob Helberg as Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment—a role within the State Department.
Trump noted that Helberg “will guide State Department policy regarding economic statecraft, enhancing America’s economic security, growth, and technological dominance internationally.” Helberg is a commissioner for the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
Moreover, Trump appointed lawyer Mark Meador as a commissioner on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Andrew Ferguson was named FTC chair. Meador previously served as deputy chief counsel for antitrust and competition policy for Utah GOP Sen. Mike Lee, working on antitrust issues at both the Department of Justice and the FTC.
Finally, Trump designated Ronald Johnson as ambassador to Mexico. Johnson served as ambassador to El Salvador during Trump’s first term and has a background in the CIA and the U.S. Army.
Guilfoyle, Barrack, Bishop, Helberg, Meador, and Johnson will require Senate confirmation. The Senate has already confirmed Ferguson as a member of the FTC, and moving a commissioner to chair does not need Senate approval.
