Trump selects Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services
Kennedy, if confirmed, would be responsible for overseeing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, and other agencies.
President-elect Donald Trump announced Robert F. Kennedy Jr as his nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Thursday.
“For too long, Americans have been impacted by the industrial food complex and drug companies that have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation regarding Public Health,” Trump shared on Truth Social, alongside his nomination.
Kennedy, who initially ran for president on the Democratic Party ticket in April 2023 and later switched to an independent bid in October 2023, suspended his presidential campaign in August and endorsed Republican Party nominee Trump.
The HHS, established in 1979, oversees 13 separate agencies, including the well-known Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Institutes of Health.
The current head of HHS is U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, who previously served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California.
Kennedy, son of former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, is the founder of Children’s Health Defense (CHD), a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating toxic exposure that contributes to childhood health epidemics.
