Trump selects Todd Blanche as Deputy AG and Dean John Sauer as Solicitor General
The attorneys have assisted the president-elect in his ongoing criminal cases.
WASHINGTON—President-Elect Donald Trump on Nov. 14 announced three individuals to help lead the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), with his lawyer Todd Blanche being named deputy attorney general.
Trump also revealed that Dean John Sauer will serve as U.S. Solicitor General and attorney Emil Bove as principal associate deputy attorney general.
Blanche represented Trump in a case involving falsified business records before New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan earlier this year.
“Todd is going to excel as we work to Make America Great Again.”
Trump mentioned that Bove, who has assisted him in multiple cases, will serve as acting deputy attorney general while Blanche undergoes the Senate confirmation process.
“Emil is a tenacious and experienced lawyer, who will be an integral part of the Justice Department, combating corruption and crime,” Trump stated.
Sauer acted as Trump’s lead counsel in his immunity case before the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the former president’s immunity from prosecution for official acts in office.
As deputy attorney general, Blanche will have the authority to exercise the power and authority of the Attorney General, except where prohibited by law or delegated to another official, according to the DOJ.
Sauer’s expected role, currently held by U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, involves defending the government’s laws before the U.S. Supreme Court.
