Trump to Hold News Conference Wednesday on DOGE Discoveries

President Donald Trump announced that he will be holding a news conference on February 13 to share insights from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) regarding its investigations into various federal agencies.

Addressing the nation from the Oval Office on February 12, shortly after the swearing-in of the new Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, Trump indicated that he would disclose the entities receiving federal contracts amounting to “hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars” that DOGE aims to terminate.

Numerous Democratic lawmakers have voiced their concerns over the Trump administration granting DOGE the authority to annul federal appropriations, which they argue fall under congressional jurisdiction.

A journalist queried Trump regarding his allegations of widespread fraud and misuse within the federal government.

Trump responded that DOGE had uncovered “significant fraud” during its examination of federal contracts.

“What we plan to do is, tomorrow, I will have a news conference. I’m going to announce some of the names that have received hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars,” Trump revealed.

“If you think we should continue funding those entities, I would say you might need to reconsider your position as a reporter.”

Trump claimed that the government is wasting “billions and billions of dollars” unlawfully.

“I went through a list of 200 expenditures made, and only three appeared reasonable to me, okay, three, and we’ll discuss that tomorrow,” Trump stated.

“We have a lot to cover, and I want to commend Elon [Musk]. … He has discovered more issues than anyone else. I believe he has the credibility to do this.”

Earlier on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned she had evidence of five contracts that DOGE had already eliminated in its attempts to cut government spending. She highlighted that providing detailed information about those contracts is a demonstration of DOGE’s transparency.

Many Democrats have criticized Musk’s involvement in DOGE, raising concerns over potential conflicts of interest given that he leads SpaceX, one of the largest contractors for the federal government. They also argue he is an unelected “special government employee” with the power to investigate agencies and influence changes that could result in terminations, canceled contracts, or even the dismantling of specific agencies.

This has led lawmakers to label it a “constitutional crisis,” contending that the executive branch is overstepping its bounds in the appropriations process, as defined by Article I of the U.S. Constitution.

Trump has previously assured that Musk will operate solely under the administration’s guidance and approval. On Tuesday, Musk defended his position, asserting that the public could readily see whether DOGE’s initiatives benefit him or his corporations.

During his address in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump mentioned that DOGE will soon examine the Departments of Education and Defense.

“We need to create a government that is smaller, more efficient, more effective, and less expensive,” Trump concluded. “People truly underestimate how crucial this is.”
