Trump to Send Golden Golf Club to National Archives

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he will send a gold-painted golf club that was gifted to him by late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the National Archives.

Trump said in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social: “I am pleased to report that after a search, we were able to find the gold (paint!) Driver given to me by my friend & former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. It was in a locker, with other clubs, at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach County, Florida. It has never been used.”

Trump added: “Based on the fact that this club was given to me before entering office, I am told that there are no reporting requirements, but I am nevertheless forwarding it to NARA. My company buys thousands of clubs a year!”

The announcement follows a report from Democrats on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee that criticized Trump and members of his family for not disclosing dozens of gifts from foreign governments during his time in office, which are worth about $300,000.

The National Archives states that gifts from foreign heads of state are the property of the American people. Any gift that the president receives from a foreign private citizen can be kept if they are worth less than $415, but any gift worth more than that amount must be declared on the president’s taxes.
