Trump Warns EU of 200% Tariffs on Alcohol, Including Wine and Champagne | Financial News
Donald Trump has cautioned the European Union that he will enforce a staggering 200% tariff on its alcoholic beverages, including wine and champagne, should the bloc impose tariffs on American whiskey.
The US president made this threat known through a social media statement, having previously claimed that the EU was established to “exploit the United States”.
In a post on Truth Social, he expressed: “The European Union, one of the most antagonistic and exploitative taxing bodies in the world, created solely to take advantage of the United States, has recently implemented a hefty 50% tariff on whisky.”
“If this tariff is not lifted immediately, the US will soon impose a 200% Tariff on all WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING FROM FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. REPRESENTED COUNTRIES.”
“This will be beneficial for the wine and champagne industries in the US,” he concluded.
