Trump Welcomes World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House
The president noted that the Dodgers faced injuries leading into the playoffs but were ultimately able to overcome them.
WASHINGTON—On April 7, President Donald Trump welcomed the Los Angeles Dodgers, the champions of the 2024 World Series, to the White House.
The Dodgers clinched victory against the New York Yankees in five games during the Fall Classic last October, securing their eighth World Series championship.
Trump highlighted the challenges the Dodgers faced due to injuries before the playoffs but commended their resilience.
“Throughout the year, the Dodgers confronted challenges head-on. You entered the playoffs injured, but you remained unbroken,” the president stated, mentioning that the team utilized a record 40 pitchers during the season as a result of injuries to both the starting rotation and bullpen.
During the event, Trump acknowledged Dodgers stars, including Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, and Mookie Betts, along with members of Congress.
He applauded Ohtani’s “incredible” MVP season, which featured 54 home runs, 50 stolen bases, and 130 RBIs.

Ohtani signed a groundbreaking 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers last year, with most of the payment deferred.
The president fondly remembered his friendship with the late Yankees owner, George Steinbrenner, referring to him as “a great friend.”
Trump reminisced about enjoying Yankees games alongside Steinbrenner.
“The Yankees are a remarkable team and an iconic franchise,” he declared.
Trump also recognized California’s Democratic senators, Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla, who were present in the audience, though he didn’t mention them by name.
Kershaw expressed his gratitude for his team’s achievements last season and their significance to him.
“The 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers season will be remembered in the history books. It holds a special place in my heart and in the hearts of many Dodger fans worldwide,” he stated.
“This organization embodies the spirit of coming together for a higher purpose, representing something far greater than themselves.”
Kershaw praised the players and staff for their “selflessness and humility,” calling it “an inspiration.”
The Dodgers, currently at 9–2 for the season, faced off against the Washington Nationals on the evening of April 7.
