Trump Withdraws Nomination of Dave Weldon for CDC Director
Dr. Dave Weldon will no longer be considered for the leadership of the health agency.
On March 13, the White House announced that President Donald Trump is retracting his nomination of the former congressman for the position of director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Dr. Dave Weldon, aged 71, is no longer in contention for the role of CDC director, as reported by The Epoch Times.
Weldon was slated to testify before a Senate committee on Thursday to respond to inquiries while senators geared up to vote on his nomination. The committee has canceled the hearing.
Trump nominated Weldon in late 2024, shortly before his presidency commenced. He stated at that time that Weldon would “proudly restore the CDC to its true purpose and will work to end the chronic disease epidemic.”
Weldon, a U.S. Army veteran, served as a Florida representative in the U.S. House from 1995 to 2009. He has yet to provide any comment regarding the withdrawal.
