Trump’s Border Czar Seeks Collaboration with Local Law Enforcement for Deportation Efforts
Tom Homan stated that the forthcoming Trump administration is committed to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring border security.
On Sunday, Tom Homan, who will oversee border issues under President-elect Donald Trump, expressed his intention to collaborate with state and local law enforcement to address illegal immigration.
According to Homan, the new administration will prioritize the enforcement of immigration laws and border security, particularly focusing on the removal of immigrants who have been mandated to leave the country by a federal court.
“It’s a significant operation,” Homan mentioned during an interview with Jan Jekielek at the Turning Point USA event on Jan. 19. “Every day, we’re going to make a difference.”
“For every criminal we remove from the streets, we enhance public safety. For every child rescued from sex trafficking, a life is saved. For every pound of fentanyl intercepted at the border, we can reduce the number of overdose deaths in this nation,” he added.
“You will see a change from day one.”
Having served as the acting director of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during Trump’s first term, Homan noted that successful implementation will necessitate cooperation from local law enforcement in sanctuary cities.
“We seek collaboration with state, local, and federal law enforcement,” he emphasized. “We want the public to actively participate, as they witness significant events.”
Deportation Plan
Homan has previously announced that mass deportation efforts are set to commence in Chicago. He indicated that the Trump administration is currently assessing various aspects of the plan regarding both its timing and location due to a leak of information to the media.
Homan explained that the leaks raised concerns about officer safety and could affect operational strategies.
“Their job is already hazardous. They will apprehend individuals who pose public safety risks or national security threats. However, when these individuals are alerted to the timing and place of our operations, it presents safety issues for our officers and disrupts specific operational protocols,” he stated. “Thus, we are reviewing the leaked information, determining its contents, and assessing its impact on our future plans.”
They have also affirmed their commitment to deport anyone living unlawfully in the U.S., although Trump has suggested he may allow certain Dreamers—those who have been in the country illegally since childhood—to remain under specific circumstances.
