Trump’s nominees set to visit Capitol Hill before confirmation hearings
WASHINGTON—Some of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees will begin meeting with senators this week, as announced by his transition team on Nov. 19.
Confirmed nominees scheduled to visit senators’ offices include House GOP Conference chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), former Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), and Fox News commentator Pete Hegseth. The senators will vote on their nominations.
Trump–Vance transition spokesperson Brian Hughes stated, “President Trump’s incoming administration is working quickly to ensure key nominees are confirmed and start delivering for the American people.”
Stefanik has been nominated as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Trump mentioned Stefanik was the first member of Congress to endorse his presidential campaign, and highlighted her efforts against anti-Semitism and her service on various House committees.
The ambassador position will be elevated to a Cabinet-level role, similar to Nikki Haley’s tenure during the initial Trump administration. It had been downgraded after her departure in 2018.
Gaetz has been nominated for U.S. attorney general, a choice sparking controversy.
A House Ethics Committee report on Gaetz is pending, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) opposes its release. The committee will determine if the report will be made public.
In a statement on Nov. 13, Trump highlighted Gaetz’s work on the House Judiciary Committee regarding government corruption and emphasized the need for integrity and transparency at the Department of Justice.
Hegseth is Trump’s pick for defense secretary, recognized for his military service and support for veterans.
Collins has been nominated to lead Veterans Affairs, with Trump praising his advocacy for service members and families.
Aside from the mentioned nominees, Trump has announced various other selections for key positions in his administration.
