Trump’s Surge of Executive Orders Set to Transform the Political Landscape | US News

The news networks in the US have referred to it as a “flurry” of executive orders, though “avalanche” may be more fitting.

The over 100 executive orders issued by President Donald Trump on his first day are set to significantly alter the political landscape.

These orders cover a wide array of policy issues, including justice, immigration, climate change, health, gender matters, and even a ban on TikTok.

During his inaugural address, Mr. Trump proclaimed the dawn of “a Golden Age for America”.

Words that Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer echoed when Trump opted to pardon individuals involved in the January 6th Capitol insurrection.

Mr. Schumer remarked, “Donald Trump is ushering in a Golden Age for individuals who break the law and plot to overthrow the government.”

By declaring a national emergency at the US-Mexico border to enable mass deportations, Trump reinforces his support among his base.

Reclassifying civil service jobs to have greater control over hiring and firing federal employees allows Trump to assert that he is dismantling “the deep state”.

However, the extensive and immediate nature of these orders raises questions regarding the balance of power between the White House and Congress.

His bypassing of the legislative process raises concerns that such unilateral actions may erode democratic norms.

The possibility of legal challenges highlights the ongoing struggle between Mr. Trump’s ambitions and constitutional limitations.

Moreover, the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization sends a powerful message worldwide.

America appears to be reverting to an “America first” isolationist stance similar to that taken during his first term in office.

As always, a significant part of the day was centered around the visual spectacle – signing executive orders on stage amid enthusiastic applause, with a desk in the Oval Office heaped with additional documents.

“This is a big one,” he repeatedly stated, before signing each document using his distinctively bold signature.

Inaugurations carry a wealth of tradition, yet the 47th President of the United States breaks from convention.

He remains unfiltered, unscripted, and perpetually the showman, showing little regard for political norms at home or abroad.

Delivering a flood of executive orders to remind us that he is both entirely predictable and completely unpredictable.
