Attorneys representing the individual suspected of murdering rap legend Tupac Shakur are examining evidence that could indicate an alternative cause of death.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis is currently the only living person who was in the car from which shots were fired in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 7, 1996.
Shakur succumbed to his injuries six days later.
Davis’s legal team claims they possess witness accounts suggesting that Shakur was in stable condition following the shooting.
They are collaborating with medical and forensic professionals to explore possible alternative causes of death.
The defense attorneys are also seeking to postpone next month’s trial, arguing that additional time is required for investigative efforts to ensure a fair trial for Davis.
The motion submitted on Friday in a Nevada court sheds light on Davis’s defense strategy, mentioning that a private investigator has located witnesses who can testify that he was not present at the site of the 1996 shooting, nor was he in Las Vegas at that time.

The motion also hints that another individual may have orchestrated the shooting, and witnesses who could provide testimony on this matter are currently being interviewed.
The defense team stated that the new findings and the necessity to interview key witnesses warrant a delay.
A hearing is set for Tuesday to address the scheduling of the trial.
“This case involves allegations from decades ago, and with each new piece of evidence, it becomes increasingly evident that crucial facts have yet to be thoroughly examined,” commented attorney Carl Arnold.
On the night of the incident, Shakur was in a BMW driven by Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight.
They were halted at a red light when a white Cadillac pulled up next to them, unleashing a barrage of gunfire.
Davis, a former gang leader accused of masterminding Shakur’s murder near the Las Vegas Strip, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and has been incarcerated since his arrest in September 2023.
