Two Dead in Small Plane Crash Near Atlanta’s Municipal Airport, Officials Report
COVINGTON, Ga.—Authorities have reported that two individuals lost their lives in a single-engine plane crash shortly after it departed late Saturday from a small airport located east of Atlanta.
The aircraft, a Rockwell Commander carrying two occupants, went down near Covington Municipal Airport around 11:40 p.m., as per information from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“The aircraft ceased all communication immediately after takeoff,” police stated in their report.
Upon arrival, police discovered the wreckage and the two deceased individuals in a wooded area just north of the runway in Newton County, roughly 35 miles east of downtown Atlanta.
Efforts are underway to verify the identities of the victims.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the incident.
