Two Individuals Charged in Deadly Stabbing of Fort Campbell Soldier in Tennessee, According to Police
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.—Authorities have charged two individuals in connection with the killing of a Fort Campbell soldier who suffered nearly 70 stab wounds last year, the police announced on Saturday.
Sofia Rodas, aged 35, faces charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence regarding the death of U.S. Army Private First Class Katia Dueñas Aguilar, aged 23, according to a news release from the Clarksville Police Department. Aguilar’s remains were discovered in her residence in Clarksville, Tennessee, in May.
Aguilar’s husband, Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, 40, has also been charged with tampering with evidence related to her death. Both Salinas Cruz and Rodas were being held on separate federal charges before being extradited to Clarksville on Friday, as stated by police. Their attorneys in the federal cases have not responded to requests for comment as of Saturday.
Specific details concerning the charges have not yet been disclosed.
Dueñas Aguilar, originally from Mesquite, Texas, enlisted in the Army in 2018 and transferred to Fort Campbell, located on the Tennessee-Kentucky border, a year later. She served in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division.
According to an autopsy report from the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office, Dueñas Aguilar sustained 68 stab wounds primarily to her neck and upper body.
The medical examiner has classified the death as a homicide resulting from injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon to the neck.
