UNLV Senior Offensive Lineman Ben Christman Passes Away
LAS VEGAS—The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has announced the tragic passing of Ben Christman, a senior offensive lineman who transferred from Kentucky after last season.
Christman, aged 21, was discovered deceased in an off-campus apartment on Tuesday morning. The university stated that further details are pending, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
UNLV has informed Christman’s family and the team and will be offering counseling services.
“Our team is heartbroken by the news of Ben’s passing,” said UNLV head coach Dan Mullen in a statement. “From the moment Ben joined us a month ago, he contributed positively to our program. He was a natural fit for our leadership committee, having earned the immediate respect, admiration, and friendship of his teammates. We extend our prayers to his family and everyone who knew him. Ben made a significant impact during his time with us and will be deeply missed.”
Christman started his collegiate career at Ohio State, recognized as a highly regarded prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He redshirted during his first year and participated in one game in 2022 before moving to Kentucky. Due to a knee injury, he did not play in 2023 but appeared in all 12 games last season, mainly on special teams.
Following his time at Kentucky, he transferred to UNLV.
“It’s difficult to find words that can ease the sorrow felt from losing a member of our university community so suddenly at such a tender age; my heart aches for everyone who knew and loved him,” stated UNLV President Keith Whitfield.
