US announces killing of Islamic State militants armed with grenades and suicide belts in raid
According to US Central Command, a coordinated attack by US and Iraqi forces has resulted in the deaths of at least 15 Islamic State militants. The soldiers raided a location in western Iraq early Thursday morning, resulting in seven US troops being injured.
The US Central Command stated, “The [IS] element was armed with numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive ‘suicide’ belts.” Five US soldiers were wounded in the operation, with two others sustaining injuries from falls. Fortunately, there were no reported civilian casualties in the raid, and all personnel are in stable condition.
Iraq’s military reported that among the dead were key ISIS leaders, although their identities were not disclosed. They also mentioned that all hideouts, weapons, and logistical support were destroyed, explosive belts were safely detonated, and important documents, identification papers, and communication devices were seized.
