This week’s budget approval efforts were thrown into chaos after billionaire Elon Musk criticized a proposal introduced by both Republicans and Democrats.
His stance received support from president-elect Donald Trump, who was advocating for an increase in the debt ceiling, which limits the government’s borrowing capacity.
However, Trump’s revised proposal to suspend the cap for a two-year period was defeated in a Thursday vote, forcing Congress to rush to finalize a deal before midnight local time.
