US News: Oprah Winfrey Denied Shelter amidst Rising Death Toll in Hawaii Wildfires

Oprah Winfrey was denied entry to a shelter for survivors of the Hawaii wildfires, despite her recent efforts to assist with aid during her visit to the state. Accompanied by a CBS news crew, Oprah was turned away from the War Memorial Complex in Wailuku. Officials explained that while they appreciated Oprah’s work, their policy prohibits media access to emergency shelters out of respect for those seeking safety. Oprah has been photographed visiting other shelters, providing supplies and comfort to victims. The death toll from the wildfires has risen to 93, making it the deadliest wildfire in the US in the past century. Governor Josh Green praised the efforts of fire crews and police, describing the disaster as the largest natural disaster the state has ever faced.
