US authorities have reported that a convicted murderer who escaped from a prison in Pennsylvania is on the run and considered armed and dangerous. The 34-year-old Brazilian, Danelo Cavalcante, was found by a homeowner in their garage stealing a rifle. The homeowner fired shots at Cavalcante as he fled with the rifle. A search, involving state and local police, as well as federal agents, is underway to capture the fugitive. Authorities have established a perimeter around the area where Cavalcante is believed to be hiding. Residents in the surrounding area have been advised to stay indoors, and a school district has cancelled classes. Cavalcante escaped by scaling a wall, climbing over razor wire, and jumping to the ground. He was undetected for over an hour. Police have warned the public not to approach the fugitive but to call emergency services if he is spotted. Cavalcante is serving a life sentence for murdering his ex-girlfriend in 2021 and is also wanted in connection with a double murder in Brazil in 2017.
