US Single-Family Housing Starts Drop 12% Year-Over-Year: Census Report
Increasing construction expenses and elevated interest rates are posing challenges for builders in providing affordable housing options.
In April, the Census Bureau reported a decline in single-family housing starts and building permits both monthly and yearly across the United States in a statement released on May 16 here.
Housing starts decreased by 2.1 percent from March and were down 12 percent from 2024. Additionally, building permit authorizations dropped by 5.1 percent month-over-month and experienced a 6.2 percent decline annually.
