Vance Claims He and Trump Met with FBI Director Candidates in Social Media Post that has since been Removed
President-elect Donald Trump selected Christopher Wray as the FBI Director in 2017.
Vice President-elect JD Vance mentioned in a now-deleted post on social media platform X that he and President-elect Donald Trump were interviewing candidates for a new FBI director.
In the Nov. 19 post, Vance wrote, “When this 11th Circuit vote happened, I was meeting with President Trump to interview multiple positions for our government, including for FBI Director.”
Vance did not participate in the Senate vote, and it’s unclear who was being interviewed for the role.
Recent reports suggested that Kash Patel was considered for the job, but his spokesperson declined to comment on the speculation.
Christopher Wray became the FBI director in 2017 after Trump nominated him to replace James Comey. Before that, Wray served as a federal prosecutor and a Justice Department official.
Normally, FBI directors serve a 10-year term, so Wray would continue as the director until 2027.
The Epoch Times reached out to the Trump transition team for further comment but did not receive a response by publication time. The FBI declined to comment on the issue.
