Vance Claims Protesters Harassed Him and His Daughter Over Ukraine Issues
A protester recounted to a local news outlet that they encountered the vice president by chance while en route to a nearby demonstration.
On Saturday, Vice President JD Vance reported that a group of protesters accompanied him and his daughter during a stroll in his native Ohio.
Vance detailed his interaction with the pro-Ukraine group on social media, noting that he took time to engage with the demonstrators in hopes of alleviating his child’s fears.
He described the discussion as “mostly respectful,” but expressed his discontent that political activists were “chasing a 3-year-old.”
“We believe that it’s in the best interest of our own people and, frankly, in the best interest of the Ukrainians for the war to come to an end,” Vance stated.
One protester also confronted Vance about the recent pause in U.S. support, accusing the U.S. of abandoning the Ukrainians. Vance responded by saying he disagreed with her perspective.
“With all due respect, ma’am, I disagree,” he replied. “I believe that what we are doing is actually working towards a diplomatic resolution.”
Later, a different protester contested Vance’s version of events, stating that they had merely crossed paths with the vice president while heading to a protest.
While acknowledging Vance for stopping to talk, she wished he had portrayed the encounter differently on social media.
This incident follows a tumultuous period in U.S.-Ukraine relations marked by a contentious meeting involving Vance, President Donald Trump, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office last month.
Tensions heightened during discussions about the ongoing conflict and a proposed agreement that would grant the United States greater access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, intended to help the war-affected nation maintain U.S. support. However, this deal unraveled following the heated Oval Office exchange.
