Virginia Man Killed After Bear Shot by Hunter Falls on Him from Tree | US News
A hunter has tragically lost his life after a bear, shot by his companion, fell onto him, according to Virginia wildlife authorities.
The Department of Wildlife Resources in the state reported that the incident occurred in Lunenburg County, situated between Richmond and Danville.
A hunting party was tracking a bear when it scrambled up a tree on December 9, the Virginia agency noted.
As the group began to back away, one of the hunters discharged his firearm, causing the bear to drop and land on another member approximately 10 feet from the base of the tree.
The victim, identified as 58-year-old Lester C. Harvey, was taken to two different hospitals but succumbed to his injuries on Friday, December 13.
An obituary reported by the Associated Press described him as a married father of five with eight grandchildren and noted that he was a self-employed contractor.

William McCormick, 28, was struck by the bear as it rolled down a slope while he was hunting near Carter Lake in Alaska, according to police reports.
