Virginia Police Reveal Likely Cause of Death for US Attorney Jessica Aber
Authorities have indicated that Jessica Aber likely passed away due to natural causes, although the specific cause and manner of death have not yet been disclosed.
On Tuesday, officials announced the probable cause of death for the former U.S. attorney, who was found dead in her Virginia residence over the weekend, suggesting that she likely died of natural causes.
Jessica Aber, aged 43, was discovered deceased at her home in Alexandria, Virginia, on March 22, according to reports from law enforcement. She served as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia until her resignation on January 20, coinciding with the transition of the Trump administration.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted regarding her death, but the local medical examiner’s office has yet to reveal the cause or manner of death, according to police. Additional updates will be provided by the medical examiner’s office as they become available.
“We kindly ask the public to respect the privacy of Ms. Aber’s family during this time of mourning,” the statement emphasized.
Aber, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden, held the position of U.S. attorney from 2021 until 2025 before her resignation. She was nominated by Biden in August 2021 and received unanimous confirmation from the Senate shortly thereafter.
Following her passing, various officials extended their condolences to Aber’s family, including Erik Siebert, the current U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the state attorney general.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares commended Aber for her efforts in addressing violent crime.
Before her tenure as U.S. attorney, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Virginia, where she prosecuted cases involving financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime, and child exploitation.
