Wade Wilson, known as the ‘Deadpool killer,’ receives death sentence for ‘atrocious’ murders of women | US News

A man with a Nazi tattoo on his face has been sentenced to death for murdering two women, reports have said.

Wade Wilson, known as the ‘Deadpool killer’ due to sharing the name with the Marvel character portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, received his sentence on Tuesday in a Florida court.

Wilson, who chose not to speak to the court in Lee County earlier that day, remained neutral as the sentence was handed down, while the audience cheered and applauded, as reported by the Independent.

In June, he was convicted of killing Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz in Cape Coral, Florida on October 6, 2019.

The death penalty was given for both murders, according to the New York Post (NYP).

Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson stated in court that “the evidence demonstrates that the murders were heinous, atrocious, and cruel,” with the second murder of Ms. Ruiz being “cold, calculated, and premeditated.”

Jurors recommended the death penalty, and Judge Thompson found Wilson’s crimes so abhorrent that he saw “no basis” to overturn the decision, as reported by the NYP.

The 30-year-old, who sports a swastika tattoo on his face, was said to have killed the women “just for the sake of killing,” Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner told the court.

Wilson initially strangled Melton, 35, in her Cape Coral residence, where her body was discovered, after meeting at a live music bar.

After stealing Melton’s car, he used her phone to contact his girlfriend, Melissa Montanez, 41, who he assaulted, but she refused to enter the vehicle.

He then encountered Ms. Ruiz, 43, who sought directions in Cape Coral and accepted a ride in his car.

When Ruiz attempted to exit the vehicle, Wilson strangled her before throwing her out of the car, only to reenter and “run her over until she looked like spaghetti,” according to court testimony.

Melton displayed bruising on her face and body, neck hemorrhages, and contusions on various organs, while Ruiz suffered a fractured nasal bone, breast laceration, body bruising, and multiple rib fractures, as reported by the Independent.

Wilson’s defense argued that he suffered brain damage from drug addiction and had abandonment issues stemming from being given up for adoption by his biological parents.

His adoptive parents pleaded for mercy, stating in a letter that “the human is still in there.”

Wilson was also found guilty of grand theft, burglary of a dwelling, battery, and petit theft.

In Florida, individuals sentenced to death may choose between lethal injection or electrocution.
