Walmart to End DEI Initiatives
Walmart announces that it will also ‘identify and remove inappropriate sexual and/or transgender products marketed to children.’
Walmart is discontinuing its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, known as DEI, the retail giant revealed on Monday.
In a statement, the company said, “We’ve been on a journey and know we aren’t perfect, but every decision comes from a place of wanting to foster a sense of belonging, to open doors to opportunities for all our associates, customers and suppliers and to be a Walmart for everyone.”
As per conservative filmmaker Robby Starbuck, who was investigating Walmart’s DEI initiatives, the company will no longer sponsor events geared toward influencing children sexually, withdraw from the Human Rights Coalition’s Corporate Equality Index, and eliminate the term “Latinx” from its official documents.
The company also disclosed that it will not extend funding beyond the $100 million it committed to its nonprofit Center for Racial Equity in 2020, with a five-year funding pledge.
Walmart is taking a step further to “identify and remove inappropriate sexual and/or transgender products marketed to children,” such as chest binders available on its website.
Starbuck revealed that Walmart reached out to him after learning about his investigation.
According to Starbuck, companies like Lowe’s, Ford, Jack Daniel’s, John Deere, Tractor Supply, and Harley-Davidson have abandoned their DEI practices.
These adjustments come amidst mounting apprehensions surrounding DEI policies and programs in the corporate sphere and other sectors of society.
President-elect Trump aims to eliminate what he perceives as divisive policies within the U.S. military on his first day in office.
Trump’s Defense Secretary-designate Pete Hegseth is anticipated to dismiss generals implementing DEI in the military. Hegseth highlighted on the Shawn Ryan Show earlier this month, “Any general that was involved, general, admiral, whatever that was involved in any of the DEI” should be ousted.
