White House Expresses Strong Support for Government Doctors Following Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the government’s medical team as ‘excellent’ and highlighted that Trump is ‘in very good shape.’

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed confidence in the White House Medical Unit and the specialists at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center following former President Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis.

During a press briefing on May 19, a reporter inquired if President Donald Trump had any concerns about the quality of the White House doctors, suggesting that they “missed the early stages” of Biden’s prostate cancer.

“Not from President Trump’s perspective,” Leavitt responded. “The White House physician we have is outstanding, and the team at Walter Reed Medical Center is exceptional.”

On Sunday, Biden’s office announced that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, and he is currently considering treatment options. This news followed earlier reports of a small nodule found in his prostate area.

“Although this type of cancer is more aggressive, it appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” his office stated, adding that Biden and his family are “reviewing treatment options with his doctors.”

In a post on X on May 19, Biden shared a photo with his wife, Jill Biden, writing: “Cancer affects us all. Like many of you, Jill and I have learned that our strength shines brightest in our toughest times. Thank you for your love and support.”

Prostate cancers are assessed for aggressiveness using the Gleason score, which ranges from 6 to 10. A score of 8, 9, or 10 indicates more aggressive cancer behavior. Biden’s office reported his Gleason score as 9, indicating a highly aggressive cancer.

When prostate cancer metastasizes, it commonly spreads to the bones. Treating metastatic cancer is significantly more challenging than addressing localized cancer, as delivering medication to effectively target all tumors can be complex.

During the news conference, Leavitt indicated that Trump is in good health and mentioned his recent multi-day trip to the Middle East.

“As you know, the president had a physical recently, with excellent results. He’s in very good shape. Those who traveled to the Middle East with us last week can confirm the president’s endurance,” she stated.

Following Biden’s announcement, there was an outpouring of support from both Democrats and Republicans, including Trump.

“Melania and I are deeply saddened by Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “We send our warmest wishes to Jill and the family, hoping for Joe’s swift and complete recovery.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris stated she and her husband are keeping Biden and his family in their “hearts and prayers.”

“I know he will confront this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always characterized his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a complete and speedy recovery,” she remarked.
