Zelenskyy Adviser Announces Upcoming US-Ukraine Meetings Focused on Peace Negotiations

The remark follows the suspension of military support and intelligence sharing from the United States to Ukraine.

U.S. and Ukrainian officials have made plans to convene shortly as the United States recently decided to halt military assistance and intelligence cooperation with Ukraine, according to a senior official from Kyiv.

Andriy Yermak, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated on X that after a conversation with Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, on Wednesday, “we deliberated on the subsequent steps toward achieving a fair and enduring peace.”

“We also exchanged perspectives on security matters and the alignment of viewpoints within the bilateral relations framework between Ukraine and the United States,” he noted. “Our teams have arranged to meet soon to progress on this crucial work.”

This comment follows a statement from Zelenskyy expressing regret over a public disagreement he had with President Donald Trump during his recent visit to the White House, emphasizing his desire to enter into peace negotiations to resolve the conflict with Russia.

Meanwhile, the United States has stalled military support for Ukraine, with senior officials from Trump’s administration confirming on Wednesday that an intelligence-sharing pact with Ukraine has been suspended.

“President [Donald] Trump raised a genuine concern regarding President Zelenskyy’s commitment to the peace process,” said CIA Director John Ratcliff during an interview with Fox News.

He indicated that the suspension “on the military and intelligence fronts” is temporary, expressing confidence that the administration will once again “collaborate closely with Ukraine.”

Just the day before, Trump addressed Congress during his annual presidential address, mentioning that he values Zelenskyy’s willingness to finalize a minerals agreement with the United States, which the Ukrainian leader reaffirmed in a letter sent that same day.

“Earlier today, I received a significant letter from President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, stating, ‘Ukraine is ready to engage in negotiations at the earliest opportunity to facilitate lasting peace,’” Trump disclosed, suggesting progress has been made.

Trump noted that Zelenskyy expressed his readiness to collaborate “under President Trump’s decisive leadership to achieve a lasting peace,” and acknowledged the substantial support the U.S. has provided Ukraine in terms of maintaining its sovereignty and independence.

“Concerning the minerals and security agreement, Ukraine is prepared to sign it at your convenience,” Trump quoted Zelenskyy as saying.

“I appreciate his correspondence,” Trump added, highlighting that “simultaneously, we’ve had meaningful discussions with Russia and have received strong indications that they are prepared for peace.”

Last week, Trump and Zelenskyy were involved in a public altercation on February 28 before the Ukrainian leader was asked to leave the White House. Trump and Vice President JD Vance indicated that Zelenskyy should be grateful for U.S. assistance rather than requesting more in front of reporters.

Zelenskyy expressed skepticism about Russia’s willingness to adhere to any cease-fire agreement, insisting on security guarantees from the United States.

“You’re risking a third world war,” Trump retorted.

At the same time, the European Commission unveiled a proposal on Tuesday that would enable European Union countries to bolster defense spending in support of Ukraine and enhance the bloc’s security, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Discussions between the two nations are taking place just over three years since Russia initiated its invasion of Ukraine, at one stage deploying heavy tanks, soldiers, and military equipment to the outskirts of Kyiv.
