19 Bodies Found in Truck in Turbulent Mexican State
Mexican security officials discovered 19 bodies of men stacked in the back of a truck in southern Chiapas state, as stated by the local prosecutor’s office on Monday. The victims were reportedly linked to a shootout between criminal gangs.
Five of the men had gunshot wounds, and all were found in the back of a truck wearing dark clothing, tactical vests, and firearm magazine clips, according to the prosecutor’s statement.
The disturbing find was near the town of La Concordia, located north of Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala.
In recent times, Chiapas has become a focal point for gang-related violence associated with criminal activities like drug and human trafficking.
The fatalities could be connected to a clash between two criminal cartels vying for control of the area, as reported by newspaper La Jornada, citing information from Mexico’s security ministry.
