19-Year-Old Arrested for Social Media Threats Against Parliament Hill, Embassies

A 19-year-old Canadian man has been arrested for posting threats on Twitter directed at Parliament Hill, the federal Department of Defense, and the Chinese and American embassies in Ottawa, police say.

In a Jan. 3 news release, RCMP identified the man as Daniel Houde from Ottawa, saying Houde was “taken into custody and released on conditions.”

Police say they were made aware of “death and terrorism-related threats issued by a Twitter user” on Nov. 8, 2022. They did not elaborate in the news release on the wording of the Twitter posts.

Houde has been charged with four counts each of a “Terrorist Hoax,” knowingly uttering threats “to cause death or bodily harm to a person,” and also threats to “burn, destroy and damage real property.” He is scheduled to appear at the Ottawa Provincial Court on Jan. 18.

“All threats to the public are taken seriously, including tweets on social media,” said RCMP Sgt. Pascal Herbert in the release.

The Epoch Times reached out to the RCMP for further detail on the nature of the Twitter posts but did not immediately hear back.
