The Australian government has received over 4,300 vaccine injury claims and paid out approximately $23 million (US$15 million) in compensation.
Statistics provided to The Epoch Times show that 8.34% of claims made to the government’s compensation scheme have resulted in payouts.
“As of July 31, 2024, the COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme has received 4,389 claims and approved 366 claims totaling around $23 million,” stated the agency to the Epoch Times.
The COVID-19
vaccine claims scheme enables individuals to claim losses exceeding $1,000 related to “moderate to severe adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines.”
The scheme covers vaccines endorsed by the TGA including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax doses.
The claims are managed by government agency Services Australia on behalf of the Department of Health and Aged Care.

Vaccine Compensation Scheme Due to End Soon
The health department website confirms that compensation claims under the scheme can be made until September 30.
The scheme excludes harm from contracting COVID-19, psychological and psychiatric conditions, and secondary injuries.
Side effects not covered include headache, fatigue, and injection site reactions.
Policymakers from various political backgrounds recently sent a letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressing concerns about the scheme ending in September.
They urged the government to prolong the COVID-19 vaccine compensation scheme and widen its eligibility requirements.
“While the Australian government protects vaccine manufacturers and encourages booster uptake, ending the safety net of the scheme is illogical,” as mentioned in the letter
here.
The letter was endorsed by Teal MP Monique Ryan, United Australia Party Senator Ralph Babet, Nationals Senator Matt Canavan, Liberal Senators Gerard Rennick and Alex Antic, One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts, and former Liberal turned independent MP Russell Broadbent.
Former Premier Says Vaccine Mandates Were a Mistake
The news arrives as former New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet acknowledged that vaccine mandates were a misstep in a farewell speech to parliament.
“Without dwelling on every wrong decision made, it’s crucial to highlight one particular mistake made by governments globally. That was the strict enforcement of vaccine mandates,” he declared in the NSW Parliament.
“Health authorities and governments were well-intentioned in curbing transmission, but if the impact of vaccines on transmission was limited at best, as now widely accepted, the law should have allowed more respect for individual freedom.”
